The award for African Designer of the Year at the Glitz Style Awards which held over the weekend went to Nigerian fashion designer, Mai Atafo.
The designer, best known for his tuxedos – a favourite among Nigeria’s top celebrities, and for designing Adesua Etomi‘s stunning wedding dress in the blockbuster, The Wedding Party, was one of the few Nigerians including Toke Makinwa who walked home from the event with a plaque.
He took to Instagram to share the exciting news, writing:
Its one for the brand, team and country, Naija we got another one in the bag.
African Designer of the year.
For every Suit, Wedding dress and everything inbetween we produce, we say thank you.
To every customer and supporter, this is for you more than for Mai Atafo.
Thank you @glitzafrica
Mai who started as a menswear designer and later introduced his bridal line, Weddings by Mai Atafo in 2010, has showcased on runways in and outside Nigeria.
