Ronaldo De Lima Had This To Say About Liberian Legend, George Weah

Former Brazil international Ronaldo says he used to look up to Liberian legend George Weah, who is one of Africa’s greatest footballers of all-time.

Ronaldo, whose full name is Luis Nazario De Lima, is arguably the best striker of all-time and he’s widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers to have played the game.

The retired marksman disclosed that Weah, legendary Dutch striker Marco Van Basten and Italian legend Paolo Maldini were his idols.

“George Weah, Marco van Basten and Paolo Maldini,” Ronaldo told Sky Sports.

“Those were the guys who I looked up to as a kid. The greatest ever. And when I was playing in Europe, too.

Ronaldo won two FIFA World Cups with Brazil and he turned out for Italian giants Inter Milan and AC Milan as well as Spanish giants FC Barcelona and Real Madrid.

“I needed to stand out as well. So… I became bold, let’s say. I set targets and I went out to achieve them,” he added.

“And I made sure people knew what I was doing as well.”

Weah was crowned 1995 FIFA World Player of the Year and he remains the only African player to have won the prestigious accolade.

Ronaldo won the award the following year with the Liberian finishing second in the FIFA World Player of the Year ranking.
