Pay Ultimate Price If Needs Be For One Nigeria, NDA Commandant Tells Officer Cadets


The Commandant, Nigerian Defence Academy, (NDA), Kaduna, Maj.Gen. M.T Ibrahim, has charged Officer Cadets of the 64 Regular Course and Short Service Combatant Course 44 Army, to remain steadfast and resolute in their decision to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Nigeria and even pay the ultimate price if needs be.

The Commandant stated this  while addressing the Officer Cadets during a Certificate Course in Leadership, organised by the Centre for the Study of Leadership and Complex Military Operations, NDA, held  at the Professor Mahmud Yakubu Hall , NDA, Afaka, Kaduna.

Gen. Ibrahim,noted that Nigeria at present is faced with many security challenges that require brave military officers and expressed satisfaction at the leadership package of the Centre for the officer Cadets.

According to him:”The nature of military operations has expanded from a nearly exclusive focus on lethal combat with other armies to a complicated mixture of lethal and non lethal actions directed at enemies, adversaries”
He added that the trend often times, leaves the local population at the mercy of the enemies of the State and charged cadets on their responsibility to protect.

The Commandant also explained that while the enemy often times follows no rules, the military forces apply natural, national laws and international conventions to every conflict:”all this call for a more dynamic and definite approach for operating in complex environments”, he added.

The Academy Provost, Professor A.S. Nwankwo, in his remarks advised NDA Officer  Cadets to be commissioned that wars of the 21st Century are hybrid and asymmetric in nature which require highly brave, intelligent and brilliant officers to tackle.

According to the Provost, leadership is very crucial in dealing with challenges of insurgency and terrorism and expressed optimism that the Cadets are well equipped with the Leadership programme for optimal performance.

The Director of Military Training, Brigadier General M.G. Kangye, in his address to the Cadets,advised them to take their training in the Academy seriously to enable them serve Nigeria better.

The Head, Centre for the Study of Leadership and Complex Military Operations, NDA, Kaduna, Associate Professor Chukwuma Osakwe, commended the  Commandant for his continued support for the leadership Centre and its programme, assuring him of quality output.

Prof. Osakwe, also said that the leadership centre has programmes that are specifically designed to inspire and empower officer cadets, students, participants and administrators to fulfil their leadership potentials in effecting quality changes in their careers, organizations, communities and the world at large.

A research fellow in the Centre, Dr. Bem Audu, said that the Centre, since inception, has continued to engage officer cadets, students and participants by providing them with a broad array of perspectives on the broad spectrum of leadership covering various spheres such as military leadership,

organizational/institutional leadership, political and faith-based leadership, challenging participants to re- evaluate their own conceptions and understanding of leadership and empowering them to transform that acquired knowledge into tangible, positive impact in their respective fields.
